Back Story

When I wrote Sensitive, I was at an emotional crossroads. After experiencing depression for ten yeas, and after overcoming it, I was at what felt like the edge of a depressive crisis. The emotions and the burst seemed familiar, but this time around I had the capacity to regulate them. So, the expression came out as this song.
Being an HSP, I had always struggled with people misunderstanding me and my intentions because of the intensity of my emotions and the words which I tend to speak with deep intention. However, when I wrote the song I had just lost my financial stability because the community I worked with decided to get rid of me with a notice of hours after my last day. They found out about my more spiritual side and, well, they did not agree... The betrayal and the feeling of being left out in the cold was unbearable, I had kept myself as receptive and kind as I could and their response was outright rejection. The fear of never having space to be my authentic self creeped in, and I wondered what was so wrong with being sensitive if I get moments of intense joy, why were there moments where being myself would mean losing everything. (Plot twist, it was not everything, I still had my music and my joy).

Sensitive is a Pop/rock/electronic song produced, written and vocally performed by Eleny Shai that features her iconic bell and melodically dynamic synth sounds. This song questions the stigma and the individual consequences of sensitivity and awareness without safe spaces to be vulnerable. The song emphasizes that sensitivity is a double edged tool that can be the cause of powerful joy and of great sorrow, and it puts society's standard of human sensitivity to a test by shinning a light on how communities receive sensitivity and vulnerability to understand how tolerance and emotional regulation can create communities in which the rioting joy of someone's sensitivity can be received with all its edges to achieve real connection. Because sometimes we may feel as though having emotions is a great burden to bare; however, emotions go both ways, so... Why does something natural feel so wrong and be so right at the same time?
